What should we wear?

If you want your photos to look good, choosing the right outfits for yourself and for your family is important. Beautiful outfits can really help the visual harmony of your images. If you have ANY questions, I’m happy to help! Please send me photos of your outfit choices and I’d love to provide recommendations. I want you to look and feel your best - for you - but also because it will lead to more timeless and beautiful photographs.

Please:

  • Aim for simplicity in your outfit choices.
Less is elegant, timeless, and beautiful.

  • Limit how many colors you wear.
Neutral colors such as beige, white, black, tan and grey often photograph the best - they complement skin tones and don’t conflict with common background elements. If you are wearing colors, please aim for a limited color pallet and work towards softer OR deeper shades. I generally don’t recommend bright colors.

  • Go with natural textures & natural colors
    fabrics:
cosy knits, linens, cottons, laces, crochets, soft sheers - fabrics that flow tend to be flattering
colors: creams, earth tones and neutrals as base with pop of a color or two such as deep oranges, burgundy, forest greens, can be lovely

  • Wear clothing that fits properly.
A proper fit that allows you to move and feel comfortable will help you look more confident in your photographs. Clothing that is too tight or too loose can be uncomfortable and unflattering. Pay attention to undergarments - if they are too tight they will cause bulges and red lines on the body.

  • Flaunt it!
Please showcase your favorite features and don’t be afraid to show a bit of skin (off the shoulder tops, backless dresses, skirts with slits are amazing!!)

  • Always dress with full length in mind.
Consider your shoes and socks in your wardrobe. Shoe styles should be simple and non distracting (no dirty old running shoes please).

Please Avoid:

  • Distracting “Busy” “Loud” Clothing (SIMPLE IS ALWAYS BEST!)

    • too many patterns and stripes or too much plaid (a little can be gorgeous but too much is overwhelming)

    • too many colors or really loud and bright colors

    • overly matchy matchy or identical outfits (it looks dated!)

    • clothing with logos, graphics, words, pictures

    • shinny, plastic, reflective, unnatural fabrics

great for fall

fabrics: cosy knits, linens, cottons, laces, crochets, soft sheers - natural with textures
colors - creams, earth tones and neutrals or deep autumn hues deep yellow / orange / burgundy or forest greens

hell yes! :)
ladies
- ruffles and frills, little bows, long wild hair, floral crowns, embroidery details, overalls, rompers, flowing dresses
accessories - vintage quilts or a coordinate blanket, cute hats, shoes that work with your outfits!

To give you a sense, here are some of my favorite fall outfits inspirations.
They are simple, complimentary, warm, cosy, natural, a little wild, carefree and bohemian:

  • Study any one photo and you’ll notice:
    - the color palate is very simple and limited.
    - patterns/stripes may be used as an accent but do not overwhelm.
    - the base tends to be soft/neutral with a pop of a natural deep or soft color.
    - outfits are complimentary not identical.
    - outfits are natural, beautifully textured, they fit well and they flow (movement in photos is gorgeous!).

  • All of this leads to visual harmony and to more beautiful photographs.
